WAEC MAKES NIN COMPULSORY FOR 2027 WASSCE REGISTRATION

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has announced that candidates sitting for the 2027 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for School Candidates will be required to provide their National Identification Number (NIN) as part of the registration process.

The Council disclosed this in a memo dated September 29, 2026, addressed to school principals, stating that the requirement followed a decision of its National Staff Examinations Committee.

Under the new arrangement, candidates will not be able to complete their WASSCE registration without providing a valid NIN.

WAEC consequently advised schools to inform prospective candidates and encourage them to obtain their NIN ahead of the 2027 registration exercise.

The requirement is expected to make NIN availability an important part of preparations for students who will participate in the 2027 WASSCE, particularly those who have not yet enrolled for or obtained their National Identification Number.

Schools, parents and prospective candidates are therefore advised to take note of the new requirement and make the necessary arrangements before registration begins.
